Arctic Island or Barren Ground Musk-ox Hunts

Musk-ox are divided into 2 sub-species Barren Ground (Mainland) and Arctic Island.  Both species can be hunted in spring or fall.   All the hunts have success rates nearing 100%.  The difference between the hunts comes down to sub-species and trophy ratio.

Arctic Island – The number of animals is staggering, there are over 750 tags issued for this hunt, however due to the remote nature of this hunt few are sold and it still remains one of the truly great Northern hunting adventures.

Barren Ground (Mainland) -  The hunter will see less animals overall than when hunting the Island sub-species, but the chances of taking a record Musk-ox are greater.  The large ratio of large book quality animals, in an extremely remote setting make this hunt attractive to the serious trophy hunter.

Fall Hunts – You will generally see about 10% of the animals you would see on a spring hunt, travel is by boat and ATV.

Spring hunts – You will see many animals and there is the need to be selective to take a trophy, travel is by snow machine.

These hunts are an experience in themselves, for many clients, just traveling to these remote arctic communities, and hunting with local guides opens a new perspective on hunting.  Please see the attached info sheets for specific details on each hunt.  As all hunts have close to 100% success, we recommend the spring hunts for the Mainland Musk-ox, it offers the best option for the serious trophy hunter.
