Since we fly the area daily with 4 of our own aircraft for a 7 month period as we operate our bear and fishing camps, we know the area tremendously well. We also operate our flying service through the winter and in addition to providing general charter service we also participate in wildlife survey programs. All of this further enhances our knowledge of the territory.
This is a major advantage as we know where the greatest concentrations of moose are found. As natural events like predators and forest fires move moose about the area it is important to set up camps on the best lakes. This is why the spike camp is our most common set-up for the moose hunt.
· Fly-in spike camps on remote lakes with one guide and 2 hunters is the most common hunting scenario. By traveling the waters by boat and calling in bays and draws success is found during the rut.
· Cows move to the shorelines as they are feeding on vegetation and bulking up for the cold winter months ahead. Bulls seek out the scows on shore. These cows are what we are simulating when calling in the bulls. Depending on the situation a combimation of Bull & Cow calls are used to draw a large bull in.
· Some hunts are conducted out of the lodge on Andrew Lake as well as our facilities on Leland and Boquene Lakes.
